If you have the misfortune to live in area of the world where it rains a lot, the one thing you are going to need more than any other type of outer wear is a way to stay dry when the rains come down. Mens waxed jackets started out as the truly iconic hip length rain jacket worn by thousands of British men in the pursuit of their favourite outdoor hobbies such as hunting and fishing. The mens wax jacket is a cotton jacket that has been made waterproof by waxing the cloth and in general the traditional jacket had a tartan lining and a leather or corduroy collar.

The most important thing you should look for is a collar that can be buttoned or closed off with a drawstring to keep the rain from running down inside your jacket and getting you wet. Large pockets can come in handy to keep the odds and ends you might have to carry with you dry and a drawstring at the bottom to help keep the wind from blowing rain up inside your jacket.

One thing that many people may not realize is that many mens denim jackets have been treated to make them waterproof. Denim is a classic material and in one form or another has been around for centuries and began life as a material known as "serge" made in the town of Nimes in France. Eventually the name "Serge de Nimes" was shortened to denim and was first turned in to a pair of "blue jeans" in Genoa, Italy before being exported all over the world.

Today the denim jacket is available in many different weights and colors for cool and cold weather and many of them are waterproof enough to keep you dry in a light to moderate rain and all of them will help you to look cool even when you staying warm and dry.
