Mens Military Jacket - Still One of the
Hottest Trends
For over 50 years the mens military jacket has been among the hottest fashion trends. From the
US Army issue field jackets coveted by the "Mods" in 60s England to the much vaunted leather aviators' jackets
still very much in vogue today, mens military jackets are enjoyed by both men and women. These jackets were
originally created to help keep those who give their all to defend our freedom from the elements, but like many
other items have long since become a staple of the civilian fashion world.
Why are they so Hot?
What is it about the mens military jacket that makes them so popular? Perhaps it is the sense of
strength and adventure that comes with wearing one. Remember that early aviators like Charles Lindbergh flew in
aeorplanes that had open cockpits and as such took to wearing leather to stay warm, but so did the barnstormers who
came later. The US Army issued the first official aviator jacket the A2 in 1917 as their pilots were fighting the
Germans in dogfights over the trenches.
Is it any wonder with a glorious history like this that the leather aviator style jacket makes
you feel like you are ready for anything that the world can throw at you. Stars like John Wayne burst onto the
silver screen in movies like "The Flying Leathernecks" decked out in what became known as a bomber jacket and created a huge demand for this style as many sought not
only to emulate the look, but the man as well. Slipping into this type of jacket can instantly make you feel like
you are ten feet tall and ready to take on the world.
Modern Stars
Old movie stars are not the only ones to make mens military jackets popular. In fact over the
last 40 years or so there have been many musical stars who have taken the mens military jacket into a whole new
dimension. Consider the Beatles with their uniforms for the "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" album; this is
not something that many people would choose to emulate on the streets today. However, in the 60s jackets like these
flew off the shelves.
Michael Jackson had a penchant for the military look and had several mens military jackets
created for various videos, this too spawned a renewed interest in the military look. The number of surplus
stores that sold out of their entire inventory of military styled jackets within days as fans sought to recreate
what they saw Michael wearing.
Although there have been incidences recently where the military trench coat has been associated
with some very unpleasant characters and events this mid length waterproof jacket has long been popular with
civilians. As they were originally designated for use by officers, perhaps it is the authority figure that they
represent that has made them so popular as much as the fact that are such a practical mens military jacket.
Despite the fact that all military use for many of the jackets being worn today has long since
passed, they are still very much in style today and show little or no sign of going out of style. Most major
retailers both on and offline carry a full selection of mens military jackets and often have trouble keeping them
in stock when the seasons change.
