Mens Hooded Jacket - Keep the Rain at Bay
When the rains are falling or the temperature is dropping the only type of coat that will give
you the kind of protection you need is a mens hooded jacket. There are dozens of different mens hooded jackets
available. From denim to waxed and everything in between, having a hood to pull over your head can be the one thing
that helps to keep your warmer and dryer than your mates who have nice jackets, but did not bother to get ones with
hoods.
Staying Dry
We all know just how unpleasant it can be to end up stuck out in the rain when we have no way to
keep our head dry and warm. While a mens hooded jacket may not seem to be the most stylish jacket in the world, it
will feel like a million pounds when you can reach behind your head and pull that silly hood up and stay dry.
Depending on what you buy some mens hooded jackets have a hood that can be rolled up or tucked out of site until
you need it, others like denim jackets have a fleece hood that stays out all the time.
Heavy duty winter coats all have some form of hood to do with them to keep your head and ears
warm when the thermometer dips below the freezing mark. Again depending on the type of jacket you buy the hood may
be detachable so that you only use it when you need it. With winter coats you may also find that the hood is lined
with faux fur or fleece to help keep in the heat; this is important as over 80% of your body heat is lost through
your head.
Flying High and Dry
While a mens bomber jacket may not have a hood, it
can certainly help you to stay warm and dry when the weather turns. When these jackets were created there was no
need for any type of hood as the bomber crews were issued with a shearling lined hat that covered the heads and
ears. The bomber jacket had an extra tall collar that continued the shearling lining all the way up, this collar
was tall enough to pull up and cover the neck and ears to provide a complete barrier against the freezing cold air
flowing through the bomber as it flew its mission, today you can enjoy this same protection.
Wax On, Water Off
The mens wax jacket is one of the older rain jackets and was
most commonly worn rain jackets by British mens for years. Traditionally these jackets were made from tan colored
cotton that had been treated with a special wax to make it waterproof. The most traditional version of this jacket
was hip length and had a tartan lining and either a corduroy or leather collar to help keep out the rain. Instead
of a hood to keep out the rain most Englishmen chose to wear a flat cap when the weather got nasty.
While a mens hooded jacket may not always seem like the most glamorous looking jacket, sometimes
you have to think along more practical lines if you really want to stay warm and dry in the foul weather.
